Real Moms Love To Eat is a book that encourages moms to let go of the guilt and frustration so many of us feel surrounding what we eat. Aldrich shows us moms a plan to still be able to eat delicious foods that we feel an emotional connection with, in a healthier way. This book will allow you to search within yourself and give you some personal time away from doing things for everyone else to give you a chance to do something for yourself.
Of course, I’m not going to get into too much detail about this book because I want you to run out right now and order it for yourself. But I am going to tell you why I loved it and some of the key points that stuck in my mind.
This book has given me more insight into myself and WHY I crave what I do. More importantly, this book sheds light as to why diets haven’t worked for me in the past. I’ve read almost every diet book out there. You could say I am a collector. I don’t view Real Moms Love to Eat as a diet book. To me, it is a wake up call. It is a friend that has given me some of the best advice I could ask for.
I love the author’s writing style in this book. She is able to grab your attention and pull you in. She encourages you to think and feel emotions throughout the pages, even to keep a notebook and make lists. I have to admit, I’m a traditional word-skipper when it comes to books, but these words drew me in because I felt like she was speaking directly to me! Beth makes you think about the why behind what you are putting in your mouth and offers us a way to stay emotionally connected to our food, and lose weight at the same time by making some simple replacements!
Throughout the book, Beth suggests that we examine the foods we are eating and not necessarily stop eating them, but upgrade them to healthier, yummier options! This is definitely something that I can do! She starts us on a plan to make small changes in our lifestyle as it relates to food. Each week contains small assignments we are supposed to complete (very easy ones, I can assure you!), loads of information about why we are doing these things and some of Beth’s personal stories. The personal stories that she tells are really what connects me to this book so much. In traditional books about nutrition and food I feel like the author is speaking at me. In Real Moms Love to Eat I feel like the author is sitting across from me and we are friends, telling stories over a cup of coffee. That connection is why I love this book so much!
Real Moms Love to Eat also encourages moms to expand our mindset when it comes to food. I went to our local Farmer’s Market this weekend, opened my mind and purchased some new variations of vegetables that I haven’t tried before, but looked like they would be fun to explore. I find myself excited to re-read the book, week by week and start implementing these ideas into my daily life. As a mom, Beth has written this book from the angle that us moms can relate with. We often are so busy worrying about everything, that we lose ourselves and what it is that we like.
The vast amount of information included in this book is amazing. It is presented in a way that it is easy to understand and is supported by research and resources. The book isn’t just about food, it also highlights key areas of our kitchen that we can make more healthy! At the end of the book, there is a 21-day plan for readers, including some great looking recipes and plenty of chocolate and other quick and easy desserts! After all, us moms should be enjoying dessert, right? I think so!
