When in Rome (or Chicago): Italian Resto Gives Us New Reason to Drool

    Friday, April 13, 2012

Mamma Mia, there’s a new obsession in my food-loving life. RPM Italian is the most recent  addition to Chicago’s River North restaurant scene, and believe you me, I am not the only person I know who’s already hooked.

Now you may have noticed that I very rarely write about restaurants—in fact I’ve only done it a handful times here. But when the house tomato sauce is this perfectly tangy and garlicky, you just don’t have a choice.

Game Night: Fast Food, Homemade Style for Final Four Fans

    Friday, March 30, 2012

Flatout chicken sliders, here we come!

In my house, all eyes are glued to New Orleans this weekend as the Final Four comes to a thrilling close. And, I gotta say, that includes my own. I wasn’t so big into sports growing up, but now I find myself just as into it as my husband and sons. So do I want to spend excessive time in the kitchen preparing loving meals while all the fun is happening in the next room? Nope.

I’m giving myself a break this weekend. Our game night menu:

    • Breaded Chicken Foldit Sliders: Super easy and super fun. And the boys don’t care, but I’m happy that the Flatout breads are healthy and fiber-rific to boot.
    • Easy salad: A bag of organic mixed greens, a carton of cherry tomatoes, and a few bottles of dressing. Easy peasy.
    • Ice cream: Duh! Of course everyone has his own favorite, so our freezer is bursting at the seams right now, but so what? It’s basically a holiday!

When it comes to love affairs, there’s one I’ve been a little less open about…I’ve got a major obsession with sparkly stuff. And like most of us I imagine, I’m pretty picky about what I wear. I like my baubles naturally elegant with just the right measure of bling, so right now I’m drooling over Susan Wheeler’s sophisticated designs, which range from nature-inspired necklaces to gorgeous diamond pave earrings.

It's so nice when your kids enjoy cooking! Here's Susan and her son Walter getting gourmet together.

Since this artful gal is also a Chicagoan, I decided to see if we shared more than our obsession with shiny, pretty things. And we do! We’re both proud moms. In fact, this gorgeous Love Letter Necklace subtly includes Susan’s children’s initials. What’s more, turns out this gal is another proud real mom who loves to eat.
