    Add a Little Dash

    Wednesday, August 25, 2011

Today, I wanted to add an extra post to tell you about a partnership we’re involved in all month long. From today until September 24, 2011, I’ll be sharing some tasty recipes that include Mrs. Dash’s salt-free seasoning, and I’ll be giving you a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card and get your hands on a ton of really delish recipes!

Sometimes people think health eating means no flavor. I’m here to tell you that’s so not true! There are many ways to liven up your mundane meals without using salt. Some of us use cooking methods like baking or sauteing with a small amount of healthy “good” oils or chicken broth, or by using a variety of herbs and spices. A great way to do this is with Mrs. Dash salt-free seasoning blends. I add them to my recipes for a boost in flavor for a wonderful result.  Mrs. Dash and TwitterMoms  want to hear how you make your family meals flavorful and appealing!

    Add flavor, not salt!

    A Wine-Wine Situation

    Wednesday, August 25, 2010

    Dear Real Moms,

Sometimes a little wine with dinner just really hits the spot. But then I worry about the extra calories and can’t sit back and enjoy it…Please help me find some peace of mind when it comes to enjoying a healthy serving of wine!  – Madison, Savanna, GA

Good question, Madison! Let’s talk health benefits. Recent studies have shown that drinking one glass of red wine each day may help protect against certain cancers and heart disease, and can have a positive effect on cholesterol levels and blood pressure.

Come On Baby, Do the Local-motion

    Wednesday, August 18, 2010

By now, you know I love the farmer’s market and even though it’s the middle of August, there are still two good months (or more) of delicious produce to be had by all. This week’s Whine & Dine question comes from our partnership with EarthTalk and the Editors of E/The Environmental Magazine:

Dear EarthTalk: I know that local food has health and environmental benefits, but my local grocer only carries a few items. Is there a push for bigger supermarkets to carry locally produced food? – Maria Fine, Somerville, MA

By eating locally sourced foods, we strengthen the bond between local farmers and our communities, stay connected to the seasons in our part of the world, promote crop diversity, and minimize the energy intensive, greenhouse-gas-emitting transportation of food from one part of the world to another. Also, since local crops are usually harvested at their peak of freshness and typically delivered to stores within a day, customers can be sure they are getting the tastiest and most nutritious forms of the foods they like.

    Love That Corn

    Wednesday, August 11, 2010

    Dear Real Moms,

I really love corn and right now our farmer’s market has oodles of it-so I’ve purchased more than my share of it. Do you have any good corn recipes you can share with  me? Thanks!
    – Carla S., Northbrook, IL.

Carla, you love that corn, don’t you?! Tee-hee. Seriously though, I do have a great corn recipe for you, or I should say, I know a a super mom who has one for you!

Meet Amy, a stay-at-home mom who’s married to a vegetarian husband. He gave up meat when he was 16 years old and since she has no desire to give up her husband,  she has adapted to living with less meat in her diet, and her blog, My Veggie Table, is dedicated to helping others do the same with a lineup of tantalizing vegetarian recipes. Yay for Amy!

So, to Love that Corn Carla and  Veggie Recipe Super Mom Amy, I give you a perfect in-season side dish (her kids eat it by the fistful) to eat while corn is at its peak:
