Shopping List, Holiday Edition: How to Stay Organic Without Blowing Your Gift Budget

Get the full scoop on what to buy organic at EWG.

Time for a little Real Moms PSA: This holiday season, give your family the git of healthy food. And by healthy, you know I don’t mean no-fat/no-fun stuff—I just mean keep those sketchy pesticides out of your meals as much as possible, without breaking the gift bank.

Aside from the fact that organic fare tends to cost more than the nonorganic picks, it also just feels harder to think about it in winter. By the way, I’ve only got gas-fired ones on my list, because they’re more eco-friendly. Unlike charcoal, which releases carcinogenic VOCs, gas lets you easily control the cooking temp. Plus, gas produces about a third of the CO2 that electric grills and half as much as charcoal grills.
